This summer, a radiologist slid into our DMs with a spicy take: "The existing solutions? Trash, Slow, Expensive. Build me something that doesn't suck." My cofounder Magdy Fares and I looked at each other like... bet. 😎 So we built ReportRad AI and just shipped it to production.
Here's the tea on why existing AI radiology tools are mid:
They're out here asking AI to write entire reports from scratch like it's a creative writing assignment.
(Spoiler alert: Medical reports aren't supposed to be "creative.")
Our solution: We use the latest cutting edge medical AI models to smartly fill in the blanks in structured templates.
Think Mad Libs, but make it ✨medical-grade✨, AI completes the template, doesn't freestyle it.
→ No hallucinations (making stuff up)
→ Consistent formatting
→ Actually trustworthy
What we achieved:
🎯 30+ radiology templates (we did NOT skip leg day on this)
🧠 Smart fill-in-the-blank AI (structured, not vibes-based)
✅ Custom validation (6-metric scoring because we're extra)
⚙️ User prompt rules (literally add your own IF-THEN logic like a wizard) 🎤 Voice dictation (it actually understands medical words)
💬 Live AI assistant (your personal medical hype person)
📊 Analytics dashboard (because data is sexy)
🔒 HIPAA + GDPR compliance (building towards, 90% done)
The glow-up:
⏱️ 2x report output - Double productivity (radiologists stay WINNING)
⏱️ 8 minutes saved per report (that's a whole coffee break back)
💰 125x ROI (yes, really)
📈 Already processing hundreds of reports ( currently at 2k+ )
What else:
🩺We organized reports by modality (CT, X-RAY, MRI, ...) then anatomical regions (the way radiologists actually think) instead of those crusty checkbox templates from 2003.
😌 Beta testers came through with the feedback:
→ "The voice dictation accuracy is impressive" (we blushed)
→ "Report quality is consistent" (no cap)
→ "Workflow efficiency potential is significant" (they're too professional to say "this slaps" but we know)
🧑💻The stack for my tech homies:
Next.js 15, TypeScript, OpenAI, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Stripe, Deepgram Medical API, Vercel.
All killer, no filler.
Why we're different:
→ Fill-in-the-blank = basically zero hallucinations
→ Custom validation on EVERY report (quality control is our love language)
→ Users add their own prompt rules (it's YOUR tool, not ours)
→ Built WITH doctors who actually told us what they needed FROM "your competitors suck" TO production in one summer.
Not bad for a couple of CS students with a laptop and audacity.
🚀 Shoutout to Magdy Fares for being an absolute UNIT of a cofounder. Couldn't have done this without you, king. 👑
The moral of the story:
Sometimes you just gotta build the thing that doesn't suck.
